The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

OneWork AdLab Project

Project Scope

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tasked teams to develop new ways & opportunities to engage people in family history work.

End goal: people learn about the gospel and have the chance to embrace it through the entry point of family history.

Findings

Family history is the most popular hobby in the world (it is a desire, but is thought of as what old people do).

Family history is real and meaningful.

Results

From our research, we discovered that in order to make family history more relevant and appealing to a younger demographic, we needed to change the way that youth and young adults perceive family history.

We created an interactive dummy app, Reunion, to connect families from the past, present and future.

The Demo App

An app powered by family search; created to bring families from the past, present, and future closer together than ever before. This app combines the fun aspects of ancestry work while connecting with friends and family nearby.

My Role

For this project we were divided into teams to compete for the business of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I worked as an account manager to organize research and develop our team's approach for new ways to engage people in family history. I also helped brainstorm ideas/aspects of the app we ended up creating, Reunion. Additionally, I coordinated meeting times for our group and designed our preliminary and final presentation to the client.

Home Page

The first thing users will see is the personalized “on this day in history” message. By selecting the info, they will be able to view more about the highlighted story. When there’s no current “on this day in history” content, users can click on the calendar to have access to go as far back/forward as they want to find events.

Users will also be able to access the menu to edit their Reunion profile and personalize their settings.

Settings include: notifications, location services, privacy, and security (log-in info).

Privacy settings include: how/who people can see/add you.

Connect Me

This page connects users to known/unknown relatives nearby using location services. Users will be able to discover how they are related.

This feature does not require others to download the app. Rather, the connections/information is connected through the black hole of the interweb.

Then & Now

The 'then & now' page is a place to post and compare old family photos in parallel with current photos. Users can also share these comparisons to other social media platforms.

Users will be able to connect with family and friends through the app and enjoy other 'then & now' pictures everyone posts in the Photo Feed.

The widget feature of Reunion combines all the fun aspects of connecting with a user's friends and family.

It will also connect a user's family history and share stories and facts with the user i.e., “This day in history your great-great grandpa started his blacksmith store." The widget provides access to Reunion through the user's computer and phone and sends notifications.

Privacy features: sensory & reporting available, private/not private accounts, who can “see” the user. Sharing location (must be on for others to connect with the user for the full experience).
